National exams timetable won’t change: Matiang’i

By Citizen Reporter For Citizen Digital

Education Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Fred Matiang’i, has said the national examination timetable will not change despite ongoing row over fresh presidential poll date.

The Education CS said the schedules for secondary and primary school national examinations will not be affected if the electoral commission changes the presidential poll date later this week after President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga teams hold talks. “Right now we are ready for the kick-off of exams. If IEBC will change the dates for fresh presidential election, it will not cause us to change scheduling of exams,” said Dr. Matiang’i.

Although the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission gazetted October 17 as new poll date, recent developments in the country’s political scene may compel electoral chairman Wafula Chebukati to change the poll date.

KNUT Secretary General, Wilson Sossion, also concurred with Dr Matiangi, insisting that the change in election date should not lead to postponement of Kenya Certificate of Primary Education and Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams.

KCPE and KCSE exams are scheduled to start on October 30 and November 6 respectively and the Education CS Matiang’i has assured all stakeholders that all preparations are ready.

Exams for visually impaired students will start on the October 23 while KCPE rehearsal is set to be held on October 30th.
